I have a great love for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities here in the ACT. I recognise the unique and diverse set of voices and experiences that they share, and I feel welcomed and privileged to live, work and meet on traditional lands.
It is important that we embrace, display and celebrate our heritage in the nation’s capital. I feel strongly that we need to listen and be led by the wisdom of the Elders when it comes to the land that we all share. The Elders in our community have knowledge and experience of this area that span so many generations, and there is much we can learn from them.
My priorities are to achieve:
-
Better outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders who live in the ACT in all aspects – including health, education, employment and strengthening families.
-
Eliminating the overrepresentation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in care, young people in the Bimberi Youth Justice Centre and adults who are incarcerated at the AMC.
